About

Cowichan Neighbourhood House Association or CNHA is a volunteer-driven community centre. Open Monday to Friday from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, CNHA offers free resources, meals, and programming to help build a stronger, more inclusive community. CNHA is dedicated to providing essential supports and opportunities for connection for the entire community

The CNHA offers free groceries, clothing, and household items through its Pantry & Free Store. In addition, lunch is served and the community is invited to drop in for coffee, a game of cards, puzzles and conversation. Other services include community dinners, knitting club, sewing repairs, cooking classes for youth, and the popular Adopt-a-Family program at Christmas.

CNHA also partners with and hosts free space for other organizations such as VIHA (vaccination and baby clinics) and the Restorative Justice Society.

The Community Gardens (with Food First Chemainus and Harvest House Food bank) has been wonderfully successful with a bountiful display of fruits and vegetables.

Vision Statement

To build a community where individuals and families can lead healthy, resilient lives.

Mission Statement:

Our commitment is to strengthen our community by reducing the impact of poverty and homelessness, and foster a sense of belonging that uplifts everyone.

As a volunteer-run community service organization the CNHA serves as an accessible and inclusive low-barrier resource for all community members. Our community integration service assists our clients with navigating beneficial services from other agencies, creating a “no wrong door” concept for our program.

We support and advocate for the dignity and well-being of all community members providing a safe space for social engagement and gatherings. We aim to offer needed food security to all through our Zero-Waste Food Security Program and to help with additional social and community offerings such as well-baby VIHA infant clinic, onsite community paramedic, clothes mending, grocery shopping, and free store.
