Our Free Store is open on Fridays (11:30 to 3:00pm) concurrently with the drop-in, and provides clothing (e.g., children, or clothing for job interviews); household tools & kitchen utensils; furniture; food on an emergency basis; and many other goods. The Free Store was accessed more than 2000 times last year.
The Free-Store receives donations of materials from several local groups, including: Chemainus Hospital Auxiliary; three local Churches; Kiwanis; the Chemainus Museum; Chemainus Seniors Centre; and numerous families and individuals throughout the Cowichan Valley.
The Free Store runs concurrently with our Resource Drop In on Fridays, 11 to 3pm. However, if you are experiencing an emergency — such as homelessness, home fire, etc. — our volunteers can try to arrange an emergency aid package using the materials in the Free Store, and a food hamper, if needed. You may also want to drop in during our Resource Drop In to share a bowl of soup and a bun with your fellow neighbours on a cold day, and pick up some frozen bread for home.
