ESSBlueEmergency Social Services

The Cowichan Neighbourhood House is a designated ESS (Emergency Social Services) warming centre.  Neighbours who have experienced house fires or homelessness have found emergency help at the Old Fire Hall.  We have a wheelchair accessible washroom with a shower and we provide warm soup, phone & computer access, and, on a case by case basis, an emergency place to sleep. We also assist people with disaster relief and assistance by providing free clothing, emergency food hampers, and help finding placement in crisis shelters.

We also run a Adopt-a-Family for Christmas drive, where we provide food hampers, gifts, a turkey and/or ham for families experiencing hardships during the season (click here for details).  Last year, we handed out hampers to more than 100 families in the Cowichan Valley.  Please register well in advance, if you would like your family to be on the list.

See our Resources Page for a longer list of resources.  Also, if you would like to see volunteer opportunities for ESS, see the page on the CVRD website.
