Fundraiser for the Cowichan United Way 2013 campaign & the Cowichan Neighbourhood House.  All-ages event headlines Lynnea Bruce who will sing original songs (see her Facebook page).  The evening includes CNHA’s own Cowichan Swing Band, who use the Old Firehall as their centre, Taylor Allum, Ray Visscher, Douglas Rollo, and Avery Nelson (see biographies below). Tickets are $12 or $10 in advance (cash only please).

We also have a dinner with salmon buffet with salad, potatoes, and bread for only $10! Finally, we have a Silent Auction as part of the fund drive, with prints, paintings, autographed photo of Daniel Sedin, and other items (details here).

Biographies of the performers:

Lynnea Bruce just turnd 16 and is a rising star in the Canadian music world.  She performs both original and cover songs at several festivals and concerts, including Sun Fest.  Lynnea has had the pleasure to sing with top performers, including Chad Brownlee, Jayden Holman, Next Star finalist Parker Schmidt, and others.  She has also opened for such talents as Big Twang Theory. This Fall, she could be seen on the TV ad for the upcoming new YTV show “Next Star: Supergroup”.

Avery Nelson is a 17 year old a student at Reynolds Secondary in Victoria. He is First Nations from Alert Bay with family ties to the Kingcome inlet and the Kwakwaka’wakw nations. He sings a mix of First Nations songs and pop songs (e.g., John Fogerty, Simple Plan, & Metallica)

Ray Visscher (guitarist) and Taylor Allum (drummer) form one of Vancouver Island’s most in-demand musical duos.  They are both top ranking musicians who have played at several festivals, sometimes under the guise of The Groove Brothers. They will be performing with Lynnea Bruce at the event.

The Cowichan Swing Band is a brass band made up of several musicians local to the Chemainus and surrounding areas.  They practice weekly right here at the Old Chemainus Fire Hall, and do community concerts with Jazz, Swing, and popular music.
