Artist Charlene George & local youth present new textile mural

August 22, 2013

Coast Salish artist Charlene George and Taylor Gates (on behalf the youth) presented a textile mural in a ceremonial unveiling, during the “First Nations in the Park” event on Thursday.  Charlene and a group of local youth designed the blanket during Art Explosion workshop this Summer.  It represents the work and spirit of the Cowichan Neighbourhood House, and we will post a full explanation of the story and imagery that goes with the mural.

We also give a special thanks to Louise McMurray from the Cowichan Aboriginal Film & Art Festival for all her hard work and for bringing Charlene to us.

The mural is now hanging at the front entrance of the Old Chemainus Fire Hall.
